To the Devil (Play Some CCR!)

To the Devil I sold my soul for a pack of smokes when the medicine show traveled through my nose. I can't help but laugh now at weddings and funerals.

He told me it wasn't how I got it done but in the city I was from and that I would be washed up at twenty-one.

I couldn't level with the Devil so on the price of love we settled. I was to never love another woman again.

I made the mistake of dancing with the snake but because it was my only deal to make, I traded courtship for a life on the stage. I'm so high now rising with grace above gravity's weight as we medicate on Mom's old CCR tapes.

Was it a woman that last broke your heart because it's been years since I last saw you cry. We went for a ride as the tears stopped welling in your eyes. You turned to me and said "Let's get high".

And that's when I cut you in on my deal; Two souls for the price of one. It's not where we're from now but how we got it done. My moon soon then eclipsed your sun.

To the women that have and will lead our hearts on time and time again - the ones who will only like us as friends; We will smoke our cigarettes closest to the butt and settle for the fuck. Music and drugs are our substitutes for love.

We're big hearted kids with a life's worth experience that would put your parents lives to shame. Just give us a chance, an open-hearted dance, a one night stand that will never leave you the same.

We're just a consolation, second best. Last pick, last match stick to set fire to your bed.

I'm just a hopeless romantic... piece of shit.

No one can save us now, brother, because by stairs or elevator, we're getting to hell one way or another.

I hope to God it was worth it.
